Summer Offerings

STEP in STEM Inquiry Based Learning Institutes

Summer institutes will address the theory and practice of inquiry-based education focusing on the design and management of project/problem based learning.  Institutes are tailored to a variety of participants including teachers, professional developers, and administrators.  Each core institute is followed by an optional planning institute, August 11-15, to assist in integrating inquiry based practices within current units and/or designing PBL units and/or supporting implementation.  Prior attendance of a core institute is recommended but not required.  Cost includes breakfast and lunch daily.  Dates for each institute are below:

June 23-27
Core Institute:  Secondary Inquiry Based Learning including Project and Problem Based Learning
Cost:  Non-T-STEM $500; T-STEM Free

July 7-11
Core Institute:  Elementary Inquiry Based Learning including Project and Problem Based Learning
Cost:  Non-T-STEM $500; T-STEM Free

August 11-15
Facilitated Planning Institute Grades 3-12

Cost:  Non-T-STEM $300; T-STEM Free

Making Engineering Accessible:  Grades 3-5
Engineering Curriculum designed for meeting the Elementary Math and Science TEKS


This 3-day workshop will introduce teachers to a complete curriculum designed to be a stand alone resource for addressing the Math and Science TEKS in grades 3-5 using applied engineering concepts.

The curriculum supports inquiry-based practices and investigations within a variety of contexts such as the environment, architecture, and simple robotics applications.  Curriculum will be included with the cost of registration.  Material costs are minimal and information regarding the purchase of associated kits will also be available.

Two sessions will be offered this summer:

Session 1:  July 30 - August 1, 2014

and

Session 2:  August 4-6, 2014

Cost for all participants:  $400.00
